Her Side... The Discovery
I listened to Anderson in complete, utter shock and disbelief, especially considering Iâve heard all of these things before. The part that shocks me the most is his obsequious approach. The genuineness and sincerity heâs able to convey for his bullshit is astonishing. In all of our years together I can count on my hands how many times he apologized and how many times he would go right back to his shit the moment I let my guard down.
I laughed a little in my head as I watched him use his hands to really get his point across like he used to do when he was nervous, but the tears. The tears were new; they were flattering and really almost convincing. I had only seen him shed a tear over death or if he was in enough pain, but never to convey real life emotion. Hmmm so heâs not a sociopath after all.
Thank God Sloane pulled up flashing the lights on us, bringing a swift end to this long and awkward silent stare. I waved my hand to let her know I was ok and watched her as she bustled up the walkway.
âHello Sloaneâ Anderson sighed, looking anywhere but in her actual face.
âHello Mr. Hobbsâ Sloane replied as she hugged me, looking Anderson directly in his eyes. Sloane really hated him, but she wasnât one to pry and thatâs what I loved about her. She respected boundaries, both he and I respected her for that.
Once Sloane was inside Anderson gave me a card with an address engraved in gold letters.
âI donât want to hold you two up, it's rainy and cold out here. Iâve already ruined your little date.â He added sarcastically. âBut there is an address on the card, if you get time tomorrow after work I would love it if you could meet me here.â He said holding my hand too long as he was giving me a business card. I rubbed my fingers over the letters gently, but never offered an answer. I canât imagine why I would meet him anywhere and it is just like him to assume that I have nothing to do, but come when he calls. âGood night Anderson.â I smiled before turning to walk inside, halfway through the door I heard him call my name. I slowly turned my head to meet his eyes as he shouted âHe was tall, but thatâs all he was... he ainât me.â We both shared a smile before I turned and stepped into the house.
I wanted to put on my unbothered face because I knew Sloane was waiting for me, but I couldnât stop smiling. I missed him; I didnât know how much until this very moment. Just to hear his voice, always so calm and deep or to look into his eyes. Those eyes get me every time, so big and brown, and his lashes. It almost looked like they were actually catching the raindrops and holding on to each one for safekeeping.
